Laudato Si'

Laudato Si'

“IN THE BEGINNING, GOD CREATED THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH”.

Genesis 1:1

Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’, is a profound invitation to everyone on the planet to care for our common home. The encyclical was published on the 18 June 2015.

Pope Francis challenges us to consider the kind of world we want to leave to those who come after us. It discusses the damage being inflicted on the Earth by humans and calls on ‘every person living on this planet’ to make urgent changes to our lifestyles.

It’s not just an ‘environment encyclical’, it leads us to ask ourselves about the meaning of existence and the values at the heart of social life: “What is the purpose of our life in this world? What is the goal of our work and all our efforts? What need does the earth have of us?” (Bishops’ Conference- The Catholic Church in England and Wales)

We are thinking about ways in which we can care for our common home and making our school community aware of global goals and the important part we all play in looking after the world that God gifted us.

The children are immersed in learning about God's world.

We immerse them through art, having plants around the school to teach the children learn how to tend to them, keeping them healthy and growing herbs and vegetables.

Year 2 and EYFS planted herbs and chatted about the smells. They are looking forward to seeing them grow over the year.

Year 6 enjoyed harvesting the potatoes they had grown then roasting them with herbs...they were delicious!

Please look at our Collective Worship and Prayer page to see how we spend time outside in prayer thanking God for creating our beautiful planet.

Taking Care of God's Earth

“I therefore renew my appeal: let us take care of our mother Earth ... let us overcome the temptation of selfishness that makes us predators of resources, let us cultivate respect for the gifts of the Earth and creation, let us inaugurate a lifestyle and a society that is finally eco-sustainable.”

Pope Francis, May 24th 2021

Miss Franco, Coach Terry and the Year 6 Chaplaincy Team Members took some of the Year 2 children on a local litter pick to teach them about the importance of caring for God's world.
