Music and Singing

Music is a very important part of school life at St Patrick’s and we are very proud at both the quality and variety of our music provision. Music enriches our worship and our community celebrations as well as being firmly established within our curriculum.
Every class in the school receives a weekly music lesson from specialist teacher Miss Savournin, who is herself a pianist and conductor. In music lessons we develop our musical skills through singing and playing, experience a wide range of music from different times and places, learn about musical notation and above all enjoy creative music making together.
The school has also been involved in some very exciting projects with musicians; we are currently taking part in a three year programme with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, involving concerts and workshops in school and trips to see the orchestra perform.
Children in Key Stage 2 have access to extended opportunities in music. The Camden Music Hub provides us with expert whole class tuition as part of the Wider Opportunities scheme. All children in Year 3 learn the recorder with a specialist teacher, and all children in Year 4 and Year 5 learn to play the trumpet or trombone as part of a whole class band lead by expert tutors.
Extra-curricular opportunities include guitar and recorder groups, the excellent Ensemble where our keenest instrumentalists play together, and a fantastic choir which performs regularly throughout the year. Our choir will be taking part in Camden Music’s fantastic festival at the Royal Albert Hall next March.
Our school additionally offers free recorder, trumpet and trombone lessons to pupils.
