St Peters Autumn Term Round Up

 

This term has been such a busy and exciting term for reception! We have had so much fun making new friends and learning many new things! The first topic we explored was ‘Ourselves’. We discovered our own and each other’s talents and unique traits. We celebrated diversity and equality.

 

During Black History Month, we different stories by African and Caribbean authors. We learned about other cultures, comparing similarities and differences with our own traditions and customs. We celebrated our diversity and identity; using different mediums to explore the cultures that make up who we are. We studied some inspirational people from the past and the present. We also looked at the work of the Malian photographer Seydou Keita, re-creating some of his beautiful images. Come in and have a look at them displayed in our classroom.  

 

Once upon a time... During Autumn 2 we read and explored a range of traditional tales. St Peters really developed their understanding of story structure, characters and story language. We did lots of role-play and drama to support our learning!

 

ST Peters had some special experiences and trips. Our first trip was to the October Gallery where we took part in a Black History Month workshop. It was lovely to see the work of different artists and to experience what it’s like being inside a gallery. We wnjoyed reflecting on some of the moving pieces that we saw. Our second trip was to watch Beethoven and the Dinosaurs – an exciting show centred on Beethoven’s classical music.It was a brilliant way to expose ourselves to the world of classical music as we went on a mystical journey searching for dinosaurs. Our theatre trip was to the Little Angel theatre to watch a puppet show. The children really enjoyed this and it got us all in the Christmas spirit!

 

We have 2020 vision – come in and have a look at our goals and ambitions for this year! Our biggest one is to read 100 books and learn 100 new words!
